New Year, New Start
January 12th 2012 03:50
I'm writing this during January, and the beginning of a new year is a traditional time to set goals and think of new beginnings. How do you want to give your writing career a fresh start this year?
Do you want to produce more? Do you want to sell more? Do you want to try something new? Do you want to finally finish one of those many projects you've started?
Whatever your goal is, take a sheet of paper now and list five actions you can take today to help manifest that goal into your reality. If you want to produce more manuscript pages, for example, you could watch one less television program at night and write during the time you would normally watch tv. If you want to sell more, you could subscribe to some e-mail market lists or purchase a copy of the latest Writer's Market.
Instead of looking back at last year and criticizing anything you perceive as a failure in achieving your goals, look ahead to this year and start strategizing ways to accomplish your dreams. No one else is going to write your articles, short stories, or novels for you. A genie is not going to magically appear and zap your manuscripts into existence, either. If you want to write, you have to sit down and write.
Figure out what you want to write this year, and get started. If you want a writing career, you're the one who has to create that career.
