Job Roundup
February 25th 2009 23:21
After all that discussion about writing, I thought I'd stop frying your poor brain cells for a day and do a quick run around the various writing sites to see what's up for grabs at the moment in the freelance world.
First stop, Helium. The Marketplace has gone a bit quiet for the moment, after a flurry of activity a couple of weeks ago, but there's a stonking $160 premier item up for grabs at the moment: "How to become a qualified poker dealer in the US". That's a pretty darned good pay package for a single article of 1,500 words.
Things are also pretty slow over at Associated Content. They only have a few Calls for Content running. However, two of them might well interest some of you Orble people, as they are looking for reviews of classic 80's movies and music! I know from hanging out over at Back To The Eighties that many of us are in exactly the right age group for those articles.
The place where most of the work seems to be going right now is GAF. A quick look at the GetAFreelancer projects list for copywriting jobs brings up over 500 items still available for bidding. Obviously this is because GAF prices for work tend towards the lower end of the pay spectrum (often $1 or $2 per article). There are, however, some nice little opportunities for visibility and cash on there that are worth a look: I've noticed some for European blogging work, some for the Aussies and a ton of translation or web work in general.
Finally, I stopped in at Constant Content. There's been a lot of activity there as well, with a dozen or more calls for articles in the last week or so. They also sold one of my articles this week, out of the blue, which can be seen as a sign that there's a good amount of traffic running through there (since I'm a total nobody).
There you go: a bit of a roundup of opportunities. If anyone knows any other (international, not US-only) sites I should keep an eye on, poke me in the eye and tell me!
