Beating the block
December 20th 2008 09:55
Hurrah, hurray! I finally managed to beat the block and write a couple of articles yesterday (hey, that rhymes!). I wasn't overly pleased with either of them, but they're acceptable.
I figured that the largest part of my block was because I'd lost the initial enthusiasm I had for online writing. You know, when that adrenaline rush starts to wind down and you start wondering if everything you write is actually just pointless crap. It's not that I'd become unenthusiastic - far from it - but that it just all seemed a bit pointless after I'd used all my original ideas.
So last night, I sat myself down and watched a funny movie. Then I gave myself a darned good talking-to and read some really bad articles. The worst I could find. I mean, these were awful. Yup, even worse than mine!
Having seen that there's plenty of nonsensical rubbish out there makes me worry less about the quality of my own work. I figure that no matter how bad my off-day is, it's never going to attain the depths of pustulent, fetid vomit that appears in some places on the Web (though you have to go looking for it, since a lot of writers out there are depressingly good!!).
I should link the articles I did yesterday: one on budget PC gaming and the other on treating anxiety disorders. Hope they're enjoyable, helpful, useful or just... er... not crap.
