Yes, I've not been around for a while. Why?

Things like this comments thread and this whole pointless load of childishness (not Damo's post, but the crap that caused it).

Maybe I'll be back some time when people have grown up. We'll see.

Hi Spike,

I think loosing you is a real loss. I've been reading stuff on Orble for a fair while now, but have never had the courage to delve into writing my own blogs... I did my first today!

Seeing all these 'flame' wars is really disheartening, and I just wish all adults would act a little more civilly to one another.

Hope you don't disappear for too long

Leaving Orble isn't going to solve anything, Spike. It'll do more good if you stick around and just ignore the jerks. There are plenty of good blogs to read and comment on.

Thanks folks. It's just Wordo that has the trouble, since it used to belong to one of the unfriendly parties. All the name-calling and hate-throwing is inconsequential, but the domain could potentially have problems.

At worst, all the nonsense going on will push me into finally taking the plunge and setting up on my own domain (for the writing stuff) and blogging out there in the scary empty void, which would be a good thing!!

I'd still hang out here on your blogs, of course (I'm subscribed to most of 'em!!), and Qwerk would continue as usual.

SL: It would actually solve the domain issues, otherwise I wouldn't care and would continue as usual. It's more than just name-calling in that particular instance. Safer to move on now rather than get nasty hassle later, if you see what I mean.

Morgan: Makes no difference. Unless they IP ban it'll stay the same (as is obvious today with the 'Anon' stuff continuing).

Awhile back, Spike, I became the favorite target of some nasty little critters. It got about as ugly as anything can. The rotten little vermin tried to get me to quit and run away. Didn't work. I'm still here. Just remember that the "anonymi" are disgusting little cowards, too ashamed of themselves to use their names. Ignore them, avoid them or fight back, just don't let them defeat you.

i saw David insulting you and claiming Wordophilia is his intellectual property, perhaps you could negotiate with Jon to have a fresh new domain and transfer your posts to it?

im sure Jon would not want to lose you as a writer, and its understandable that you wouldnt want to write on a domain the causes hostility to be aimed at you

i for one would like to see you stay, your articles are always informative and you interact nicely with the other users

Yarrr, I agree totally. Thing is, if there was even the tiniest possibility of losing thepoliticalbrief.com, would you continue producing content on it or rebuilt it somewhere you know it'll be safe? That's all I'm thinking of doing. No changes, no hiding, just a safer URL (as it were).

Morgan: Yeah, it's that whole thing that's a concern. (His insults were inaccurate, so not particularly bothersome.) I've been thinking of 'opening' my own blog site on a proper URL recently, as it looks like I might have to make a bit more of a living from freelancing - my health issues aren't going away and no one's going to hire me if I can't sit at a desk for at least a few hours.

A web presence would be essential for that and I can't really do it the way I'd like to here. This whole sequence of events might be some higher power encouraging me to do just that. Or it might be all the drugs.

Thanks for the compliments (and the condiments), also. Even if I do move the writing site stuff, I'll be around like I said. I'm like a bad smell: it's not easy to get rid of me.

I already have frugal.worldblogosphere.com on his network. Haven't posted in a little while - things have been hectic.

I don't think a network blog will work - this would be more of a need to define the page layout and content, so I'd probably have to go to WordPress.com or get some hosting and URL on an entirely separate provider (which would appeal less to the cheapskate in me) and manage my own install (which would appeal more to the geek in me). Probably WordPress with a decent theme and a bit of HTML hacking.

Yup, I have a back injury: it happened when I was doing 5 hours' travel per day on trains. Spent a year learning to walk, stand and sit again, then took a local job. Three or four months later, it went again - ambulance ride to the hospital and everything (nitrous oxide benzo-diazepines = fun!!). I'm learning to walk and stand and sit AGAIN now.

I don't actually take any medication or anything, unless I really have to... but I need to blame something for the way I am...!!

Hey Spike,

I have to admit that the craziness at Orble has driven me away of late. I keep up with betagirlblog.com, because I have regular readers there and I don't want to lose them, but mylifemymuse.com has suffered. I like to post political and social issues there, and with all of the fighting and garbage on Orble, I just haven't been tempted to do so in a long time.

I'm hoping that a lot of this will fizzle out. I'm all for free speech, but many people on Orble are really testing the limits.

I find your posts on this blog highly informative and interesting, so I hope that you continue in some form, even if it is on a different platform, or one of your own.

I've been having pretty good success over at Gene's network. Perhaps you could stick that one out and see where it goes.

On a different note, my husband injured his back while in the Army, and I know how awful the pain can be. There are times when I just look at him helplessly as he struggles to regain a level of comfort. No meds really seem to work for him. He says that the pain he can live with, it's the spasms and the inability to find a comfortable position that drive him mad.

I hope that both of you feel better soon!

Egad, that sounds just like me. It's quite frightening how high my pain threshold is now: the other day I burnt my hand on the oven, then the cat scratched the same spot. I just sort of looked at it and thought "Ouch". Nothing, compared to the back pain.

I should get paid for a freelance job I did within the next few days and then I'll be able to set up on my own domain. I'll be over on Qwerk (here at Orble) though, posting my nonsense about films and books and stuff.

Did you see the other Susan Boyle clip, btw?

Hi Spike

I know what you mean, I've been slow with posting on my own blog for a few months now (for my own reasons) but still hop onto Orble for some reading and fun.

The last few weeks have really put me off, the vitriolic pack seem to be leaders of the site, have an opinion on everything and are making Orble unpleasant. An opinion seems ripe fodder for insults.

But I think it will slow down after a while, it's happened before so that should help. I really like Orble and I don't want to toddle off. Hope you stick around.

Tracy

Things won't be the same, if you're away from the Orble, Spike! No matter what, good luck for your career and hope to see you again very soon...
